Mecca (Makkah)

Mecca, also known as Makkah, is a city in the Hejaz region of Saudi Arabia and the holiest city in Islam. It is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and the site of the Kaaba, the most sacred site in Islam. Every year, millions of Muslims from around the world make the pilgrimage to Mecca, known as the Hajj, as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Aside from its religious significance, Mecca also offers a range of cultural and historical attractions. One of the most notable is the Masjid al-Haram, the grand mosque that surrounds the Kaaba and is the largest mosque in the world. It can accommodate up to 4 million worshippers during the Hajj. Visitors can also explore the city’s rich history at the Makkah Museum, which features exhibits on the Islamic faith and the history of Mecca.

Another must-visit attraction in Mecca is the Jabal al-Nour, a mountain located just outside the city that is said to be the place where the Prophet Muhammad received the first revelation of the Quran. Visitors can climb the mountain to reach the Hira Cave, where the Prophet is believed to have spent much time in prayer and reflection.
